Founded in 1994, WEF was created in response to the need for alternative sources for funding education, both within the school system and in the broader Weston community. In 1994, Connecticut ranked only 46th out of the 50 states in its support of technology in education. From its inception, WEF chose as one of its priorities the funding of new technology initiatives in our schools to close that gap.
WEF provides initial funding for educational projects, technologies and initiatives that are not typically within the parameters of the school system budget. The introduction of SMART Boards and the Television Studio at Weston High School, as well as the first high-speed internet system in our schools, are just a few examples of the meaningful and substantive impact that WEF has had on our students, our schools, and our community over the years.
