WEF awarded a grant to assist Sustainable Weston in its efforts to achieve Sustainable CT Silver Certification for the Town of Weston. The grant helped to cover the costs of hiring 4 spring/summer high school and college interns to assist in documentation and other actions necessary to achieve Silver status. While Sustainable Weston is comprised of volunteer experts, the student interns were paid an hourly wage to support the sustainability principle of fair pay for work performed, in addition to the education they received through their service. An additional important feature of the intern program was the adherence to the principle of equity – another pillar of sustainability – by including persons of color, including one student from the neighboring town of Bridgeport.
