Robotics Club
2014
Recipient: Weston Middle School
$15125
Grant
WEF provided the funding to create a Robotics Club at WMS in 2014. Within 2 months of its creation in September 2014, the club had 79 members. By the end of January 2015, club members had logged over 1,500 hours of robotics designing, building and coding. Two teams represented WMS in their first-ever competition at Danbury High School in February. All of the teams participated in an internal school STEM event in June, showcasing their new skills and knowledge.
A few more highlights:
- During the 2017-18 school year, the WMS Robotics Club continued to grow. All four of the WMS teams – including the first all-female team – ranked in the top 10 in the Southern New England Regional Championship and two of them qualified for the National Open.
- In the 2021-22 school year, another all-female team was the first Weston team to qualify for the Vex Robotics World Championships.
