In March of 2024, we partnered with the Hurlbutt PTO to provide funding for a new MakerSpace at Hurlbutt Elementary School (the HIVE). The former computer lab room will be transformed into a dedicated MakerSpace to engage in activities and projects that foster creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration skills, as well as promoting perseverance and resilience. As explained by Hurlbutt librarian Sharon Rodko, the HIVE will help lay foundational skills for students to build upon throughout their careers as they work toward fulfilling the Portrait of the Graduate requirements for WPS students.
